Biography

Andrew Penn graduated from a BSc Neuroscience and Biological and Medicinal Chemistry from Keele University in 2004, and after a short period as a Research Assistant at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, Andrew conducted his postgraduate studies at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology (University of Cambridge, UK) with Drs Ingo... read moreGreger and Stephen Williams. In 2010, Andrew moved to France for his postgraduate research at the Interdisciplinary Institute for Neurosciences (IINs, University of Bordeaux II) in the lab of director Daniel Choquet, funded by EMBO long-term and Marie Curie FP7 IEF postdoctoral fellowships. In 2015, Andrew was awarded an MRC Career Development Award to start his independent research at the University of Sussex, UK in 2021. Andrew is now a lecturer and researcher in the Neuroscience department and is a member of Sussex Neuroscience and the Sussex Centre for Sensory Neuroscience and Computation. His research interests lie in glutamate receptor ion channels and the roles that they play at excitatory synapses in health and disease.
