Biography

Bruce A. Hay is a distinguished Professor of Biology and Biological Engineering at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). His research primarily focuses on understanding the genetic and molecular mechanisms that regulate cell death, neurodegeneration, and cancer. He has made significant contributions to the study of mitochondrial quality control, particularly... read morein relation to neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

In addition to his work on neurodegeneration, Hay is also involved in applied evolutionary population biology. His research aims to modulate the composition and fate of wild populations, with goals such as preventing the spread of invasive species and developing transgenic mosquitoes that cannot transmit diseases like malaria and dengue fever.

Hay’s innovative approaches and dedication to his field have made him a prominent figure in biological engineering, contributing to advancements that have the potential to improve human health and environmental sustainability.
