Dr. Fernandes is a pharmacist, and got his master's and PhD degrees in medicinal chemistry at University of Sao Paulo. He has taught as associate professor for more than 15 years, and in 2013 he joined as associate professor at the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp), Brazil. He has published more than 50 peer reviewed papers, most of them regarding his work in the medicinal chemistry field, and advised 12 graduates during the last years. His research interest mostly regards on histamine receptor ligands, especially involving the design and evaluation of multitarget ligands for inflammation and CNS disorders. He is member of the European Histamine Research Society (EHRS), of the Brazilian Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences (ABCF) and of the Brazilian Chemical Society (SBQ).
