Biography

Ana Faria obtained her M.D. degree from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG, Brazil) in 1985, her PhD from Universidade de São Paulo (USP, Brazil) in 1994 and she was a post-doctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA, in 1998-1999 and 2002-2003. She spent three sabbatical periods at Università... read morede Bologna, Italy (2011), Rockefeller University, New York, USA (2016) and Instituto de Medicina Molecular, Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal (2022) working on projects related to healthy aging and mucosal immunology. She is full professor of Immunology at Departamento de Bioquímica e Imunologia, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (Brazil) and currently the President of the Brazilian Society of Immunology (SBI). She was a member of the Scientific Advisory Committees of Brazilian Research Agencies (CNPq and FAPEMIG) and she is the coordinator of the Sub-committee of Mucosal Immunology Nomenclature of IUIS. She is the head of the Laboratory of Immunobiology at UFMG and her research team has expertise in Mucosal Immunology (mostly in oral tolerance and gut inflammatory diseases) and in Immunosenescence. Her laboratory is particularly interested in the determinants of healthy aging in populations who live in different environments such as metropolitan areas and endemic areas for chronic infectious diseases.
