Dr. Mariana Vargas-Caballero University of Southampton, UK

Dr. Mariana Vargas-Caballero is a Mexican/British neuroscientist. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Biology in Mexico. She then trained for a Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge. She is an expert in electrophysiological techniques, such as patch-clamp and field recording, that directly measure the strength of neuronal connections. In 2012, Dr. Vargas-Caballero established her research group at the University of Southampton where she is a Lecturer in Neuroscience. Her research interests focus on understanding brain plasticity and how brain circuits are affected by dementia.
