Anne Cooke is an Emeritus Professor of Immunobiology at the University of Cambridge. Initially studying autoimmune haemolytic disease she moved to studies of autoimmune thyroid disease and ultimately to Type 1 diabetes. Her research focus has been largely on the regulation of autoimmune responses examining both environmental and genetic factors governing onset of disease. She has for many years been studying the interplay between infectious agents, especially parasites, and the immune system. She has shown that some infectious agents, or their products, can inhibit the development of autoimmunity through many different routes including effects on the innate immune system and on regulatory T cells.

She is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and of the Royal Society of Biology. She is an Honorary Fellow of University College London and holds an Honorary Doctorate at the University of Copenhagen.
