Biography

Dr. Sattentau’s BSc in microbiology was from Bristol University (1980), and his PhD in virology and immunology from London University (1985). Postdoctoral studies on HIV-1-receptor interactions were done at UCL and Columbia University. He returned to the UK in 1998 and was appointed Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London in 1999. In 2003 he joined the Dunn School of Pathology at Oxford University, where since 2006 he is a Professor of Immunology. He has worked on HIV-1-host cell interactions and neutralizing antibodies for most of his career. His current research is focussed on using post-translational modifications to enhance protein and glycan immunogenicity in the contexts of vaccination and immunopathology. He has published ~200 papers and has an h-index of 65. He teaches infection & immunity to medical and biomedical science students at Oxford University and Magdalen College.
