Diane E. Griffin attended Augustana College with a major in Biology and earned an MD and PhD in Immunology from Stanford University School of Medicine. She did fellowships in viral pathogenesis with Richard Johnson and in infectious diseases at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She is past president of the American Society for Virology and American Society for Microbiology and current Vice President of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. Her research is focused on the pathogenesis of viral encephalomyelitis and measles.
