Diane E. Griffin attended Augustana College with a major in Biology and earned an MD and PhD in Immunology from Stanford University School of Medicine. She did fellowships in viral pathogenesis with Richard Johnson and in infectious diseases at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She joined the faculty there,... read morewas Chair of the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology in the School of Public Health and later became a Johns Hopkins University Distinguished Service Professor. She is past president of the American Society for Virology and American Society for Microbiology and was Vice President of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. Her research was focused on the pathogenesis of viral encephalomyelitis and measles and she made great contributions to the field. Dr. Griffin sadly passed away in November 2024.
