Philip Van Damme is a professor of Neurology, at the University of Leuven (KU Leuven) in Belgium. He graduated from medical school in 1999 before entering the Neurology training program in Leuven. After finishing his neurology... read moretraining in 2006, he became a member of staff at the neurology department of the Leuven university hospital. In 2008, he was a visiting neuromuscular fellow in MGH, Harvard Medical School. In 2009, he was appointed as associate professor and granted a clinical investigatorship from FWO-Vlaanderen, which allowed him to continue his research on ALS and the related neurodegenerative disorder FTD. He is currently director of the Neuromuscular Reference Center at the university of Leuven, where he is taking care of patients with ALS. His research into ALS is both clinical and more fundamental, geared to a better understanding of the disease mechanisms of ALS.
