Michael J. Thomas OBE, OM (Poland), now sadly passed away, was Emeritus Professor at University of Strathclyde Business School. He previously taught for many years in the United States and at Lancaster University in the UK. The author of numerous journal articles and textbooks, he was a past Chair of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, President of the Market Research Society and a member of the Institute of Export's Professional Qualifications and Examination Board. Prof. Thomas received an OBE 1999 for his work in management education and the Commander's Cross of the Polish Order of Merit for his work in furthering management education in Poland beginning with the Solidarity movement under Communism through to Poland's democratic present. The University of Strathclyde has initiated the Professor Michael J. Thomas Prize for Excellent Performance in International Marketing in his honour.
