Most of Calvert Markham’s career has been as a management consultant, initially specialising in HR consultancy but now concentrating on the performance development of consultants and practices.

Elevation Learning was acquired by City University at the beginning of 2014.
After graduation in 1965 Calvert joined ICI where he worked successively as a process control engineer, production manager and finally as a marketing manager. He entered the world of consultancy with PA Management Consultants in 1974, where he specialised as a human resources consultant.
In 1984, he moved to Spicer & Pegler Associates and developed their human resources consultancy practice. He left to set up his own practice in 1987, and in 1989 formed Consultancy Skills Training which was renamed Elevation Learning in 2007.
Calvert was a member of the Institute of Consulting Council (then the Institute of Management Consultants) over many years, initially through his involvement with the Professional Development Committee and most latterly as President. During his period of office in 2004, he steered the Institute through its merger with the Chartered Management Institute. He continued to chair its International Group and was a Trustee of the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes (ICMCI), of which he was also a Vice Chairman, chairing its Professional Standards Committee until late 2013.
Calvert is also a former Chairman and President of the Richmond Group (a consortium of independent management consultants) and is a Past Master (and Father of the Livery) of the City-based Worshipful Company of Management Consultants, of which he was a founder in 1992.
Calvert is visiting professor in the practice of management consultancy at Cass Business School and has had teaching engagements at other business schools, in the past including Imperial, Kingston, Durham, and the Grenoble Graduate School of Business, and currently delivers the consulting module on the MBA at Leeds University Business School.
