Mr. Jan Willem Blankert Asia Analyst

Jan Willem Blankert received his Masters degree in Economics from the University of Amsterdam in 1975. He spent much of his early career first as a statistician and then as an economic analyst and forecaster. During the 1990’s he became a diplomat with the European Commission, and most recently spent... read moretime in Jakarta as a Special Adviser for relations between the EU and ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations). Jan Willem Blankert also held the position of senior fellow at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore for the academic year of 2007/08. He is author of the book “China rising: will the West be able to cope” and his article “ASEAN’s much underrated soft power” was recently published in Europe’s World. He is currently working on a new book “Europe’s economic crisis: what, why and how to get out of it”.
