Biography

The Strom laboratory has been active in the isolation, culture and transplantation of human hepatocytes for over 30 years, and the transplantation of hepatocytes to treat patients with liver disease for over 20 years. Our... read morelaboratory was the first in the US to gain approval from the FDA for the isolation of hepatocytes for clinical transplants. We also conduct basic research with isolated human hepatocytes and stem cells from different sources. We are investigating stem cell-derived hepatocytes; particularly those generated from induced pluripotent stem (iPS) and human amnion epithelial cells. We recently moved from the US (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) to Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden and continue this work.
