Biography

Joel R. Evans, Ph.D., is the RMI Distinguished Professor in the Zarb School of Business at Hofstra University, Long Island, New York. Hofstra has been the host of U.S. Presidential Debates, seen around the world, in both 2008 and 2012. Prof. Evans is the co-author of Retail Management: A Strategic... read moreApproach, 12th edition (Pearson, 2013).
This book is widely used internationally and is available in English, Chinese, and Russian editions. He is also the co-author of Marketing, 11th edition (Cengage/Atomic Dog, 2010), which was one of the first American marketing books to be translated into Russian.
Prof. Evans' journal publications on retailing include such diverse topics as "Retailing in Perspective: The Past Is a Prologue to the Future," International Review of Retail, Distribution and Consumer Research (February 2011), pp. 1-31; "So You Want to Be an Entrepreneur: Plan for the Challenges Ahead," MBA Review [India] (March 2010), pp. 10-15; and "Are the Largest Public Retailers Top Financial Performers? 2005). pp. 842-857. In 1993, Prof. Evans co-founded the American Marketing Association Special Interest Group in Retailing and Retail Management; he served on the board of this group until 2001. In 1995, he was the co-chair of the prestigious American Marketing Association Faculty Consortium (held at Hofstra) on the topic of "Ethics and Social Responsibility in Marketing." Prof. Evans writes a retailing blog, "Retailing: From A to Z by Joel Evans" (http://bermanevansretail.com), and a marketing blog, "Evans on Marketing" (http://evansonmarketing.com). Each blog has hundreds of posts and a worldwide following. Professor Evans has consulted for a number of firms, both large and small. And he has been interviewed in many media formats: newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, and online.
