He trained as an undergraduate research assistant with Mitch Lazar at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He received his PhD with Michael Elowitz at Caltech where he characterized Crz1 bursts and their role in calcium signalling. He completed his training at UCSF with Alexander Johnson where he investigated the impact of evolution on fungal transcriptional circuits.
