Biography

Maria Arranz completed her PhD at the Toxicology Unit of the Medical Research Council (1992, London, UK) and then worked as an Assistant Lecturer at the University of the Balearic Islands (1992-1993). In 1993 she joined the Clinical Pharmacology Research team at the Institute of Psychiatry (King´s College London) where... read moreshe directed several lines of research on genomics and pharmacogenomics of mental disorders. During this time, her team published several world leading papers on the pharmacogenetics of psychotropics. In 2011 she joined the Fundació Mútua Terrassa as Director of the Research Laboratory Unit, where she directs several lines of research on biological factors contributing to complex diseases and pharmacological response. In 2019, she opened the FMT Pharmacogenetics Unit (FPU) to conduct pharmacogenomic research and to facilitate the access to genetic tests to hospitals and clinical centres. The FPU is the first Spanish unit to routinely perform tests for users of the child and adolescent psychiatric ward on admission and for adult treatment resistant patients. Additionally, she lectures on pharmacogenomics in several graduate and post-graduate courses.
