Allan Mowat is Professor of Mucosal Immunology at the University of Glasgow. Having trained in Medicine in Glasgow, he obtained his PhD in Immunology in Edinburgh and has worked in mucosal immunology for more than 30 years. His principal research interests are understanding the factors that control whether the intestine... read moregenerates active immune responses or develops immunological tolerance. His current work focuses on the functions of dendritic cells and macrophages in the intestinal mucosa, based on new methods of isolating and characterizing these cells. He also has a substantial undergraduate teaching load and is a Consultant Clinical Immunologist working in an NHS diagnostic immunology laboratory.
