Prof. Wolfgang Voos University of Bonn, Germany
1 TalkBiography
Dr. Wolfgang Voos is currently Professor of Biochemistry at the Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of the University of Bonn. He studied biochemistry as an undergraduate at the University of Tubingen, Germany. In 1994, he received his PhD degree from the University of Freiburg, Germany, focusing on the role... read moreof mitochondrial Hsp70 chaperones in protein import. After a postdoc period in the group of Dr. T. Stevens at the Institute of Molecular Biology of the University of Oregon, Eugene, USA studying protein targeting mechanisms in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, he developed his own research group at the University of Freiburg in 1997. During this time, his interest in the biochemical mechanism of mitochondrial protein quality control emerged. His current research interest is focused on the analysis of protein homeostasis in mitochondria from fungal and mammalian model systems, using biochemical and proteomic approaches. A major goal of his research is to determine the impact of mitochondrial protein quality control on human diseases, in particular neurodegenerative diseases.
