David Williams received his MSc and PhD degrees from the University of Toronto and did postdoctoral work at Johns Hopkins University. He received the Merck-Frosst prize for his research from the Canadian Society of Biochemistry, Molecular and Cellular Biology and many years later served as President of the Society.
