In 2001 he was elected into the Association of American Physicians. Dr. Busse received the Folkert Belzer Life Achievement Award in 2004, and the American Thoracic Society Award for Scientific Accomplishments in 2005, and in 2008 received the Citation Award for Achievement from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.
