Zeger Debyser (b. Brugge, 1965) is a Medical Doctor (KUL, 1990). He obtained his PhD for research at the Rega Institute (KU Leuven 1994). Between 1990 and 1994 he was an FWO fellow. Between 1998 and 2003 he was a postdoctoral FWO fellow for research on HIV integration. Since 2009 he is a Full Professor at KU Leuven Campus Kortrijk and lectures biochemistry, metabolism, virology and gene therapy. He is the head of the Division of Molecular Medicine at the KU Leuven. He published around 150 papers in international journals and is inventor on 6 patents. His scientific expertise focuses on the molecular virology of HIV, drug development and gene therapy.
