John Pratten is a Principal Lecturer in Business Studies at the MMUC Faculty of Manchester Metropolitan University. Professionally, he has taught in further and higher education, while his wife took over a public house. By assisting her, he gained experience within the licensed trade. This involved both bar management and catering. Thus, his research interests have centred on the catering industry. In recent years he has concentrated on investigating the corporate social responsibility of this sector, in an attempt to help solve the problems of binge drinking.
