During his career, he has served as a tenured, full professor at several universities, including Cornell University, the University of Arizona and Auburn University. His research background includes field studies in the Americas (Guatemala, Colombia) and Africa (Liberia, Tanzania, Kenya) as well as laboratory investigations of vector-parasite interactions and the long-term colonization of black flies.
