Rick Dijkhuizen is a neurobiologist who received his PhD at Utrecht University in 1998 on 'Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy in Experimental Cerebral Ischemia'. There his research focused on elucidating spontaneous and therapy-induced recovery after stroke with different MRI techniques in patients and animal models. In 2002, he became Group Leader of the Biomedical MR Imaging and Spectroscopy laboratory at the UMC Utrecht. His current research activities involve application of various MR techniques (e.g, fMRI, DTI, molecular MRI, fMRS) to study (patho)physiology of cerebrovascular disorders in animal models and human subjects, with a particular focus on neuroplasticity and neuroinflammation.
