Adapting workplace violence strategies to manage company risk and the modern workforce paradigm
Abstract
As the remote workforce evolves, security professionals must align the workplace violence strategy to secure assets, data and employees to manage company risk tolerances. The threat of workplace violence is not only confined to the traditional office space, it is also a relevant threat for employees working from their own homes. Employees working from home do not have access to the same physical security protections or practices in place in the pre-pandemic workplace. This paper examines considerations for identifying and preparing for threats of violence and establishing a proactive approach for securing the new workforce paradigm. Author's Biography
Robert Achenbach is presently a Chief Security Officer who has served for the past 19 years. Robert is a top-performing and seasoned leader with a total of 30 years of accomplished experience in risk mitigation and programme development within government and private sector administrations. He has expertise in directing sound consultation to improve security measures, systems and strategies in the compliant protection of equipment, information and personnel. Robert received his Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership degree in 2019 from Northcentral University in Prescott Valley, Arizona. Prior to this, he received a Master of Science in security management in 2006. Robert is recognised by the Anti-Terrorism Accreditation Board as a Certified Master Anti-Terrorism Specialist (CMAS). He supports the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS International) as a national speaker and supports various steering committees, including currently serving as the chairperson for the ASIS Professional Development Community Steering Committee. Robert is currently co-writing a book on the Concentric Layering Approach to Strategic Security (CLASS) due out this year.
Debra Andersen is presently a Security Administrator, managing the physical and cyber security policies and programmes for a data-driven, marketing executable, high-speed printing company. She also does security consulting. In her current role, she recently took the organisation from SOC1 Type II to SOC2 Type II certification. Deb has over 15 years’ experience in physical security including setting up a global manufacturing company’s physical security and Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) programme from the ground up. She conducted third-party vendor assessments for a global bank. As a Security Account Manager, Deb worked with customers to implement security solutions for schools and churches. Deb earned a Master of Arts degree in management with leadership emphasis from Doane College and a Bachelor of Arts in communications/journalism from University of Nebraska at Omaha. Deb holds a Physical Security Professional (PSP) certification from ASIS International and a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification from ISC2. She has served in many positions on the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) Heartland Chapter Board, including Chapter Chairperson. Deb is currently serving as the Nebraska InfraGard Chapter President. Along with security colleague, Dr Robert Achenbach, she is currently co-writing a book on the Concentric Layering Approach to Strategic Security (CLASS) due out this year.
