Abstract
Student engagement and academic integrity are two commonly addressed challenges of online education. These topics have been studied as separate issues by many researchers. This paper considers the two issues and describes them as intrinsically intertwined, presenting practical solutions to both problems, by using customised assignments. The paper includes details of actual customisation methodology, to support educators in customising coursework to their specific course content.

Author's Biography
Janis Weber CPA, DBA, is a member of the Accounting Faculty at the Hoover School of Accounting, Financial, and Information Services at the University of Louisiana Monroe (ULM), where she holds the Alumni Professorship in Accounting. Janis earned a DBA, Accounting Concentration, from Liberty University, an MBA from Regis University, and a BS in accounting from the University of Arkansas Monticello. Janis is a Certified Public Accountant, practising public accounting for more than 20 years in Bastrop, Louisiana, where she provided tax and advisory services to small businesses and individuals, serving a large niche market of physicians. During her time in public practice, Janis was extensively involved in community and professional organisations, such as the Chamber of Commerce, community theatre and her church, as well as various American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) and Louisiana Society of CPAs committees. In the academic arena, she is actively involved with the National Business Educators Association, at state, regional and national levels. Online delivery of educational content with excellence has been one of the highest priorities of Janis’s teaching career. She has taught hundreds of challenging accounting courses in the online format, producing supporting video content and creating novel assignments, to underwrite learning and engagement. She was lead author of a study guide and workbook to enhance student understanding of financial and managerial accounting concepts. She also authored multiple chapters in Openstax’s open-access textbook covering introductory financial accounting.
