Abstract
Productivity is key to the regional inequalities in the UK. Following work published last year by Metro Dynamics1 on Greater Manchester, this paper seeks to understand productivity trends in neighbouring regions which have also managed to start to close the productivity gap in the decade to 2020. The paper also unpacks the differences in productivity trends within the North of England’s various economic sub-regions.

Author's Biography
Henri Murison Since his appointment in 2017, Henri Murison has led the Northern Powerhouse Partnership and consistently made the case for improved transport links to the North through HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail, and a better deal for those who are most disadvantaged by the education system. Previously, he worked in senior policy roles in policing and financial services and was formerly the Cabinet Member for Quality of Life in Newcastle City Council.
