Invite colleagues‘Science of’ events as a means of alumni engagement
Abstract
Novel means for alumni engagement have always been important, but now may be more critical than ever. Connections between university faculty and students have been shown to be important for retention, but can also be utilised for reconnection with alumni. Herein, the authors describe small-scale alumni events with mini-classroom experiences. These events can be run on a budget, help engage with other members of the local community and build on the expertise of the faculty present on a given campus.

Author's Biography
Michael J. Samide is a professor of chemistry at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Michael holds a PhD in analytical chemistry from Indiana University and a bachelor of science degree from Wheaton College in Illinois. Michael teaches courses centred on chemical analysis of cultural heritage objects as well as analysis of food. He participated in the ‘Project museums uniting with schools in education’ sabbatical research programme at the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields and continues his collaborations there as a visiting research scientist.
