Communicating the dream

Abstract

Communication strategies are of fundamental importance in not only telling communities about proposed changes to their area, but also involving them in the regeneration process and, at the most basic level, ensuring that they understand the material that is put before them. As the planning system moves to a localist agenda, communications will play a more and more important part of the process if projects are not to become mired in misunderstanding. The Localism Bill will give neighbourhoods much more say in the way proposals go forward and developers and architects will need to look seriously at how they communicate to the people who can accept of reject their proposals.
