Invite colleaguesThe roles of CSDs in a blockchain environment
Abstract
Blockchain is expected to revolutionise the securities post-trade world. This technology would radically change how securities are maintained and stored by custodians and central securities depositories (CSDs) presently. This could mean that a number of intermediaries in the post-trade area may become obsolete. CSDs, however, are increasingly considering blockchain as enabler of more efficient processing of existing and new services in which they could play a role. In this paper, it will be explained how this blockchain technology will impact the post-trade environment and what (new) roles CSDs are expected to play in the new blockchain environment.
