Implementing a safe business travel policy at Aegis

Abstract

This paper describes the creation, implementation and evolution of a business travel policy in a London-based firm with 13,500 employees, a substantial number of which travel on short business trips. The group contains a wide variety of businesses of varying size, complexity and longevity, and local operations have considerable operational autonomy. The company has a duty of care to staff and needed to provide appropriate guidance and support to business travellers. With this background a business travel policy was developed and published as part of the global policy manual. A survey was also carried out to better understand the traveller profile, travel patterns and understanding of the travel policy, as well as use of emergency travel and medical insurance. The information from the survey was discussed and led to a revision of the policy.
