Abstract
Every day we are confronted with data in various forms and structures. Data visualisation provides one of the best tools to grapple with the deluge of data, to comprehend the data surrounding us and to make decisions based on the data. This paper explores some of the techniques and best practices to build such visuals and discusses two case studies.

Author's Biography
Kerry E. Brackett is a senior consultant for product development/marketing at Verizon. She has over 16 years’ experience in business-to-business marketing of technology products and services, as well as experience in telecoms, data networking, clean energy, renewable energy, enterprise network security, federal government, higher education, cable and wireless market spaces.
Sumit Pal is a big data, visualisation and data science consultant. He is also a software architect and big data enthusiast and builds end-to-end data-driven analytic systems. In a career spanning 22 years, Sumit has worked for Microsoft (SQL server development team), Oracle (OLAP development team) and Verizon (Big Data analytics team).
