Smart urbanism: Making massive small change

Abstract

So top-down, command-and-control no longer works, does it? The government says that bottom-up localism is the way. They may be right. Despite the boom of recent years, the quality of place that everyone wished for has not been delivered. This paper shows why there has not been much success. It will show how one can learn from emergent systems such as traditional cities, nature and the web to develop a new evolving paradigm. It will also show how this thinking has been applied in recent projects.
