Vali J. Hawkins Mitchell
Journal of Business Continuity & Emergency Planning, 1 (1), 96-107 (2006)

Abstract

Self-care is a tool that helps employees function effectively during normal work conditions and — especially — during crisis situations and business interruptions. This paper will further define self-care, its relevance to business continuity and emergency management, and the benefits of including it as a part of formal training and pre- or post-intervention strategies. Finally, it provides best practice guidance on how to implement self-care protocols, including examples of current practice.

Keywords: self-care protocols; incident management; pre-post incident support; trauma recovery; emotional continuity management; customer designed self-care methods; resources; peer support; policy and procedures
