How accessible is this website?
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
- Video material published before 2015 may not have closed captions. Closed captions for specific talks can be provided on request to us.
- Most PDFs of journal articles published before September 2018 will not have appropriate tagging, nesting and alternative text, and it will not be convenient to listen to them using a screen reader.

Henry Stewart Talks Ltd. is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance status
The HSTalks website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard.
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
Website
There are some UI elements that have contrast ratio lower than 3:1. This fails WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 success criterion 1.4.11 (Non-text Contrast). We plan to fix this in Q1 2025.
There are some webforms that only have field names as placeholders and not as labels. This fails WCAG 2.0 success criterion 3.3.2 (Labels or Instructions). We plan to review this issue in Q1 2025 to find a solution.
There are some limitations to modifying the line height and spacing of text. At certain places of the website increasing the line height will make part of the text unreadable. This fails WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 success criterion 1.4.12 (Text Spacing). We plan to review this issue in Q1 2025 to find a solution.
Some tooltips on the website are not hoverable and will disappear when the user moves the mouse or uses the keyboard. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.13 (Content on Hover or Focus). We plan to review this issue in Q1 2025 to find a solution.
PDFs of Journal Articles
Some PDFs of articles published after September 2018 are formatted in a way which doesn't allow a logical and intuitive reading order when using a screen reader. This fails WCAG 2.0 success criteria 1.3.2 (Meaningful Sequence) and 2.4.3 (Focus Order). We plan to fix this by Q2 2025.
Content that's not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
Pre-recorded audio and video
The accessibility regulations in the UK do not require closed captions on video and audio published before 23 September 2020. Videos and audio material published before 1 January 2015 might not have closed captions, but adding these can be specifically requested if you contact us.
Journal Articles in PDF format
The accessibility regulations in the UK do not require a fix for PDFs and other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they're not essential for providing a service. Most of the articles published before that date, will not be accessible in a way that passes Adobe's accessibility checker, but fixing that issue for an article can be requested if you contact us.
