Prof. Nenad Ban Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, ETH Zurich, Switzerland
1 TalkBiography
Nenad Ban is a Professor of Structural Molecular Biology at ETH Zurich. He conducted his postdoctoral work in the laboratory of Thomas Steitz at the Department of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University where he spearheaded the X-ray crystallographic structure determination of the large ribosomal subunit, a 1.5 MDa... read moreribonucleoprotein complex. These results revealed that the active site of the ribosome is formed out of RNA demonstrating that the ribosome is a ribozyme. Currently he is studying structure and function of large cellular assemblies involved in protein and fatty acid synthesis. Nenad Ban is the recipient of several prizes and awards including the Latsis prize of the ETH Zurich, Friedrich Miescher Prize and the AAAS Newcomb Cleveland Prize.
