Biography

James Manley is a major leader in studies of the mechanisms and regulation of gene expression. He pioneered the use of cell-free systems to dissect critical steps in the synthesis and processing of mRNA. He was made Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Columbia University in 1980, Julian Clarence Levi Professor of Life Sciences in 1995 and was Chairman of the Department of Biological Sciences until 2001. Dr. Manley has published extensively, has received an NIH MERIT Award and is an ISI Highly Cited Researcher. He is currently the Editor for Molecular and Cellular Biology.
