Prof. Dr. Stefaan De Smedt Ghent University, Belgium

Professor Stefaan De Smedt is the founder and head of the Ghent Research Group on Nanomedicines at Ghent University in Belgium. His laboratory focuses on developing delivery systems for biotherapeutics, nucleic acids and proteins, aimed at treating lung and eye diseases, as well as cancer, using approaches like mRNA vaccines... read moreand cell therapies. In collaboration with both academic and industry partners, his team works on developing and testing innovative delivery technologies for advanced therapies. He has held guest professorships at universities in Belgium, China, and Italy. Since 2004, he has served as the European Editor of the Journal of Controlled Release (JCR), and in 2023, he became its Editor-in-Chief. He is also a member of the Flemish Royal Academy of Medicine, the European Academy of Sciences, and the Académie Nationale de Pharmacie in France.
