Arnold Caplan (1942–2024) was a renowned scientist and professor at Case Western Reserve University, often referred to as the "Father of Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs)." Born in Chicago, he earned his B.S. in Chemistry from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University. He joined Case Western in 1969 and became a professor in 1981. Over his career, he authored over 400 papers, held 20 patents, and received numerous awards for his contributions to science. Beyond his professional achievements, he was a mentor to many researchers and a devoted family man.
