James Cox is Professor of Human Pain Genetics at University College London. After studying Medical Science in Birmingham, he studied for his PhD in Molecular Genetics in Cambridge where he worked with patients with X-linked learning disability. He then joined Prof Geoff Woods (in Cambridge) and Prof. John Wood (at... read moreUCL) as a post-doc before establishing his own research team in 2011 at UCL with an MRC Career Development Award. His laboratory investigates the genetics of inherited pain disorders. Current research is focussed on the impact of non-coding RNAs on pain, including studying the mechanism of action of the FAAH-OUT long non-coding RNA, that is mutated in human pain insensitivity.
