Dr. Martelli has had an extensive career in in the corporate sector prior to entering higher education, having worked in multiple companies and industries as a corporate and operations level manager, professional individual contributor, and consultant.
Prior to Findlay, Martelli was a research scientist at the Industrial Technology Institute in Ann Arbor, Michigan. There, he worked with corporations throughout the US in the design, implementation and evaluation of organizational systems aimed at assisting American corporations gain competitive advantage in a global environment. Martelli was also a corporate-and plant-level Human Resource Manager in 2 global 500 corporations. He worked primarily on the design and implementation of HR and organizational systems in existing and new manufacturing facilities throughout these organizations.
He later founded and was president of The Human Resource Department, a full-service HR and Management consulting company (which he then sold off). Consulting clients have included Ford Motor Company, General Motors, General Electric, Motorola, Chrysler Corporation, as well as numerous small- and mid-sized corporations.

He has published articles in numerous professional and business journals, and has presented at international, national, state, and local professional organizations and conferences. Martelli has a Doctorate in Human Resource Management and Industrial Technology from the University of Northern Iowa.
