Biography

Ole Petersen graduated in medicine and obtained his doctorate from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. He was appointed Professor of Physiology at the University of Dundee, Scotland, in 1975 and became George Holt Professor of Physiology at the University of Liverpool in 1981. Ole Petersen discovered agonist-evoked Calcium release from intracellular stores in 1972, pioneered recording of single Calcium- activated ion channels in epithelial cells in 1982 and demonstrated the Calcium tunnel properties of the endoplasmic reticulum in 1997.
