Elvira Mambetisaeva is a Lecturer (Teaching) at the Division of Biosciences, University College London. She teaches biology and human disease genetics to undergraduates and postgraduates. She grew up in Kyrgyzstan and trained at Moscow Pirogov Medical School, where she gained a BSc + MSc in Medical Biochemistry. E. Mambetisaeva earned... read moreher PhD in Medical Biochemistry at the Institute of Experimental Cardiology, Moscow, Russia; and obtained a Diploma in Science Communication from Birkbeck, University of London. As a postdoctoral researcher, E. Mambetisaeva worked at the University of Wales, National Institute for Medical Research, London, and King’s College London investigating the role of gap junctions in Charcot-Marie-Tooth; neural induction in Xenopus laevis, and the role of axon guidance molecules Robos and Slits in mammals. She is interested in understanding human disease development, and, in particular, in the molecular mechanisms of how cancer cells evade the immune system, and in pharmacogenetics.
