Biography

Dr. Gerrit van Schalkwyk is the unit chief of the adolescent inpatient and young adult programs at Butler Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island, and is an assistant professor of psychiatry and human behaviour at the Warren Alpert Medical School, Brown University. Dr. van Schalkwyk has a strong interest in the conceptual issues around diagnosis in patients with autism spectrum disorder, including cases where additional symptom dimensions are present. Dr. van Schalkwyk is also involved in teaching of medical students and residents, particularly around the topics of translational neuroscience, autism and anxiety.
