Biography

Dr. Richard R. Burgess is James D. Watson Emeritus Professor of Oncology at the McArdle Laboratory for Cancer Research at University of Wisconsin-Madison. He obtained his B.S. in Chemistry at Caltech in 1964 and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Harvard in 1969. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow... read morein Geneva, Switzerland from 1969-71 and joined the faculty of the Dept. of Oncology at the UW-Madison in 1971. He founded the UW Biotechnology Center in 1984 and was its Director until 1996. He was the recipient of the 1982 Pfizer Award and the 1999 Waksman Medal and was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology (2003) and the AAAS in 2008. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal Protein Expression and Purification, chaired the Cold Spring Harbor Protein Course from 1992-2013, has taught a 28-lecture course on protein purification at UW-Madison since 1986, and was Co-Editor of the Methods in Enzymology vol 463, 2009, A Guide to Protein Purification 2nd Edition.
