Biography

Vincent Racaniello attended Cornell University and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Biology in 1974. He obtained his PhD from Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in 1980. After postdoctoral work with David Baltimore at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he established his laboratory at Columbia University where he has worked... read moreon the reproduction and pathogenesis of RNA viruses including poliovirus, Zika virus, and enterovirus D68. His research has produced the first infectious clone of an RNA virus, the discovery of the cell receptor for poliovirus, and the establishment of a transgenic mouse model for poliomyelitis.
