Biography

Daneel van Lill is a teacher at heart with a deep-rooted affection for the tourism and hospitality industry. His passion for growing a new generation of future-fit leaders and managers continues to show in leading the College of Business and Economics at the University of Johannesburg as Executive Dean. He... read moregraduated from the University of Stellenbosch with a BSc, BSc Honours, MSc (cum laude), and a PhD followed by a scholarship from the German Foundation for International Development to study innovations in educational management.

Daneel specialises in change and management development, mostly in the context of the global tourism and hospitality industry. His academic career is marked by twelve professional awards for exceptional accomplishment among which the Ernest Oppenheimer Memorial Trust Senior Fellowship and a Vice Chancellor’s Award Class Gold for professional and academic excellence. His output is reflected in numerous book chapters, research reports, accredited research articles, conference proceedings, key note addresses and industry workshops.

Daneel served as the Editor for Africa and Europe of the Journal of Pricing and Revenue Management, chaired the South African Association of Hotel Schools for ten years, served on the boards of the International Performing Arts Trust and the Free State Tourism Authority and contributes as a trustee of several trusts supporting people development. The Minister of Tourism appointed him to serve on expert panels overseeing the development and implementation of the National Tourism Sector Strategy.
