Kenneth Leonard is an associate professor of economics in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of Maryland, specializing in the delivery of health and education to rural populations in Africa. His work has highlighted the critical roles played by both traditional healers and nongovernmental organizations in the delivery of health care. Recent work focuses on the supply of health care services in rural Tanzania and examines the behavior of households in response to the quality of care that is available to them. In addition, he has been studying the know-do gap with clinicians in Tanzania and the role of intrinsic motivation in closing this gap.
