Dr. Steinberg obtained his MD and PhD in Neurosciences from Stanford University. He is also leading novel clinical trials of stem cell transplantation for stroke, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury. He has published over 500 peer reviewed articles and book chapters. Dr. Steinberg has held continuous NIH funding since 1987 and in 2010 he was awarded a $20 million grant from the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine to translate neural stem cell transplant for chronic stroke into a clinical trial. The many honors Dr. Steinberg has received include the Congress of Neurological Surgeons Charles Drake Lecturer, Stanford University Medicine Alumni Lifetime Achievement Award, American Heart Association Stroke Progress and Innovation Award, Global Genes RARE Champion of Hope Honouree, Smithsonian American Ingenuity Award, and Society of Neurological Surgeons H.
