1 TalkBiography
Professor Sheena Cruickshank is an immunologist based at the University of Manchester. Her research focuses on how an immune response starts and how it distinguishes between benefit (such as our microbiome) or threats (such as infection and injury). Her work has shown that events that happen early in an immune... read moreresponse predict whether someone will have a resolving or chronic long-term inflammatory response. She looks at how immune cells and commensal bacteria or pathogens talk to each other and how this communication shapes the immune response in infection, inflammation (e.g. inflammatory bowel disease), and delayed wound-healing. She also enjoys communicating her research to the public and believes it is a vital part of a scientist’s role in society and has discussed her work on the radio and TV and has received prizes and commendations for her public engagement work.
